How to Utilise Your Nervousness to Give Your Best Audition

We are going to break this down for you (also, just freestyling - may add more at a later date)

  • Make sure that you are prepared

    • you know your character

    • you know where they are & what time it is

    • you know what they are doing

    • you know who they are with

    • you know why they are there

    • you know what they want from the situation/ the conflict & how to get it

    • and for this to work, you already know how to act & know your lines

  • Give yourself time before the audition

    • I mean physical time too - 15-30 mins

    • figure out that before moment

    • go over your lines

    • calm yourself down

      • Shake your body - your hands, feet, legs arms, torso, all of it for about 1 min

      • Deep breathing 3 X - 5 sec in, 7 sec hold, 8 sec release

      • imagine you are a tree, and your feet are your roots - visualize the roots going down into the ground so deep until it hits the middle of the earth, there those roots can attach themselves to any solid rock or crystal

  • During the audition

    • its your time with them, and you are the right person

    • if needed, give yourself a few seconds to integrate into character and then begin

      • this can look like reviewing who you are, and what you are doing

      • It can also look like using your senses to build the room

    • Perform, say thank you, and exit proud that you did it

Acting is very experiential, and sometimes internal, but it is a lot of fun, especially if you go into that audition very prepared.
