The Coffee Mug: A Small Mindfulness Practice
Here is a small practice that a person can do to bring a bit of mindfulness into their lives.
The coffee mug:
How does the coffee mug feel in your hands? Does it feel warm or cool to the touch?
What does it look like? The colours of the mug & the liquid inside?
What does it smell like? What are the aromas you are picking up?
What does it taste like? Is it sweet? Is it bitter?
How are you feeling at that moment? Are you stressed or calm?
Where are you in that space? How are you sitting, are you warm or cold?
What sounds are you hearing at that moment?
In answering those questions about the moment that you are in, you bring yourself back to the present.
I give the example of the coffee mug as that is one of the simplest & smallest things that most people do on a daily basis that they are relatively unconscious of as making tea or coffee is something that is made daily. So when you take a moment to feel & see & listen & smell, you take a moment to remind yourself that you are here and that you get to experience this amazing thing.
You are free to do this practice with anything else that you do simply daily, and bring awareness to the magical amazingness that is your life.
